SEVEN THINGS
WORTH KNOWING.

Use Your Illusion I is sprawling by design. The credits reveal how far Guns N' Roses had moved beyond the stripped-down attack of its debut.

01

Use Your Illusion I was released on September 17, 1991 and contains 16 tracks, ending with the nearly ten-minute "Coma."

02

When the two Use Your Illusion albums entered the UK chart together, Use Your Illusion II debuted at No. 1 and Use Your Illusion I debuted directly behind it at No. 2.

03

Blind Melon singer Shannon Hoon appears in the album credits on background vocals, adding another recognizable voice to the already crowded sessions.

04

Alice Cooper shares lead vocals with Axl Rose on "The Garden," while West Arkeen contributes acoustic guitar to the track.

05

The sessions spread across several studios, including A&M, Conway, Image Recording, Studio 56, the Record Plant in Los Angeles and Metalworks in Canada.

06

For the 2022 remaster, "November Rain" received a newly recorded real 50-piece orchestra arranged and conducted by Christopher Lennertz.

07

The 2022 remaster was created from high-resolution 96kHz/24-bit transfers of the original stereo half-inch analog master tapes.

WHY THIS
ALBUM MATTERS.

Use Your Illusion I documents a band deliberately refusing to repeat Appetite for Destruction. Hard rock is still the foundation, but piano, acoustic guitars, horns, guest voices and extended arrangements turn the record into something much more expansive.

THE
NUMBERS.

16

TRACKS

Sixteen songs fill the original album.

#2

UK PEAK

The album entered the UK chart at No. 2 while its companion entered at No. 1.

50

ORCHESTRA PLAYERS

The 2022 "November Rain" remaster replaced the original orchestral treatment with a real 50-piece orchestra.

THE
PHYSICAL OBJECT.

The two Use Your Illusion albums were designed as companions, using related artwork with different color treatments. Put together, the sleeves immediately announce that the records belong to the same oversized project.
